Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan believes MS Dhoni deserves a farewell match. Everyone were taken by surprise when Dhoni decide to hang his boots in international cricket. The veteran cricketer announced his retirement on August 15 which brought curtains on an incredible journey.
Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the best cricketers ever and has made his mark on Indian cricket. The 39-year old has helped India win all the three major ICC trophies during his tenure as the captain.
Speaking on his farewell game, Irfan Pathan went a step ahead and suggested a match involving few icons who did not receive a proper farewell. It is well known that cricketers like Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Yuvraj Singh are some of the legends who were not given a proper farewell in recent years. This topic has come into foray when Indian cricket fans always discussed about their elite careers.
“MS Dhoni deserves a farewell match. He has done so much for the country and for himself. He has been an icon for youngsters to take up cricket no matter where you are. Talking about records, he has been one of the most successful Indian captains so why not, he deserves that absolutely,” Irfan Pathan told Star Sports Cricket Connected.
“I would even go on to take one step further. Why not involve all the cricketers who have been involved in Indian cricket? They have achieved something, maybe it is a World Cup or whatever it is, give them farewell. Maybe make an eleven with Dhoni as the captain and make them play against the current Indian cricket team,” he further added.
MS Dhoni Focused on IPL 2020
Many believed Dhoni to be in contention for world cup spot in India next year. However, after the sudden announcement by Dhoni, fans are eagerly waiting for their super star to don Chennai Super Kings jersey.
With the burden of performing for a place in Indian team gone, now Dhoni is solely focued on the upcoming IPL. This year the mega event is taking place in UAE and Chennai Super Kings have already departed to Dubai last week.
All franchises are well prepared for the tournament in the Middle East. However, Dhoni could prove to be the X-factor for CSK this season. The talented batsman can play his free flowing batting this season and Indian cricket fans could be in for a treat.
The CSK management once again are backing their old guard to come good. Chennai has managed to win IPL 2018 and finished up runners in IPL 2019. We can surely expect the team to make it to play offs this season with the talent in their roster.
