Chennai Super Kings cricketer Suresh Raina might never again play for the franchise after his sudden exit on Saturday. The 33-year old has been one of the best cricketers in the history of IPL.
However, his withdrawal from IPL 2020 has irked the management of Chennai Super Kings, as per the report from PTI. In fact the news came as a surprise for many cricket fans when Chennai Super Kings revealed it on their social media.
Raina has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings’ setup since the inception of IPL. As per the sources, Suresh Raina was not happy with his room in Dubai. The southpaw wanted a similar room to that of MS Dhoni. Raina was reportedly upset for not having a balcony in his room.
“In CSK, the norm is that the coach, captain and the manager get suites. However, Raina also gets a suite in any hotel that the franchise stays. It’s just that his room didn’t have a balcony,” an IPL source told PTI.
Suresh Raina is a key player for Chennai Super Kings. Although the team did not close the doors on him, it is likely that he might not feature for the franchise cometh next summer. There is a high chance for other franchises to sign Raina in IPL auction 2021.
“He is unavailable this season and that is clear from the official statement issued by the CSK. Now there are certain things that have not gone down too well with the top people. It looks highly improbable that someone who has retired and likely won’t play any cricket will come back for CSK. Maybe, he will be back in the auction and someone else might pick him,” the source said.
Chennai Super Kings Banking Heavily on Young Ruturaj
Losing Suresh Raina is a huge blow to Chennai’s title aspirations. However, the team are looking on Ruturaj Gaikwad to step up and take the role of Suresh Raina in the team.
It is the only thing that the team can hope at this moment. There are not many players left in the pool and there are even fewer when you want to replace a player of Raina’s caliber. On the other hand, Gaikwad is one of the two players to have contracted corona virus.
He was tested positive in Dubai and is currently undergoing 14 day isolation period. The youngster will take his first PCR test again on Day 10. Once he is back, Gaikwad needs to quickly settle down and make an impression at the start of IPL 2020.
