Former Chennai Super Kings chairman N Srinivasan was critical on Suresh Raina after the latter decided to head back home. As reported on Friday, the franchise has revealed that Raina will not participate in IPL 2020 due to personal reasons.

The news did struck Chennai fans very badly amidst the ongoing crisis in the camp. At least 12 players or staff members have been tested positive for Corona virus in Dubai. This news also meant Chennai Super Kings are yet to begin their preparations for IPL 2020 with the mega event looming close.

Suresh Raina is one of the highest paid cricketers in IPL this season. Srinivasan has came down hard on Raina saying that it is player’s loss and insisted the team will not force anyone to do anything.

“The season has not begun yet and Raina will certainly realise what he is missing and certainly all the money (a salary of 11 crores per season) he is going to lose,” Srinivasan told Outlook.

“My thinking is that if you are reluctant or not happy, go back. I don’t force anyone to do anything … sometimes success gets into your head,” he further said.

Suresh Raina Unhappy With His Hotel Room

As per the various reports, Suresh Raina is unhappy with the hotel facilities provided to him. The southpaw was irritated with his room reportedly did not have ‘proper balconies’ which made him feel insecure.

“Cricketers are like prima donnas … like the temperamental actors of the olden days. Chennai Super Kings have always been like a family and all seniors players have learned to co-exist,” said Srinivasan.

Some reports suggest Suresh Raina headed back home because of his uncle’s demise in Pathankot. While others suggest the 33-year old was insecure on his own health with so many staff testing positive for Corona in CSK Camp.

Despite all these reports, the exact reason for Raina’s withdrawal from IPL 2020 is still unknown. However, CSK will definitely miss his services going into the mega event. He is their best player with the bat.

With IPL looming fast, it is almost impossible for Chennai management to find a like for like replacement. Instead, they need to find the right balance in the middle order and will have to readjust the entire lineup. Will Chennai Super Kings be successful without Raina? Only time will tell!
