The right arm swing bowler Bhuvaneshwar Kumar is a part of Indian cricketing circles since 2012. He had a brilliant debut in a T20 against Pakistan when he took 4 wickets for 8 runs. Moreover he impressed everyone with his quality swing bowling. For much of early part of his career, Kumar was predominantly a new ball bowler in limited overs format.

This capability of Kumar was both a boon and bane for him. He would generate prodigious swing with the new ball. However, as soon as the ball lost its shine, Kumar would become seriously ineffective. Hence, MS Dhoni who was the Indian captain back then preferred to use all his 10 overs in one spell.

After a poor season in international cricket where he lost his swing, Kumar was dropped from the team. Hence, Bhuvi worked on his death bowling skills during the time he out of the team. Consequently his death bowling improved and now he is one of the better bowlers in slog overs for both India and Sunrisers.

In a career of close to 9 years, Bhuvi has picked up 138 wickets in 117 games. That comes at an average of 34 and an economy rate of 5. He has played just 21 tests in his career due to dodgy back issues. In the tests, he has taken 63 wickets at an impressive average of 26. Moreover in the T20s for India the right arm seamer has scalped 45 wickets in 48 games with a decent ER of just under 7.

Bhuvi gets emotional about Dhoni!

Now with him being the senior most bowler for India in the Sri Lanka series, Kumar was interviewed about his role in the side. After a while he also talked about MS Dhoni. When the legendary wicket keeper retired in 2020, Bhuvi posted an image of him and Dhoni. The caption written on it was :

“You taught us that all our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them. It was an honour to be a part of your cricketing journey. I have learnt so much from you Mahi Bhai, your wisdom, your guidance has always helped me not only in cricket but for life as well. Happy retirement @mahi7781″.

Hence, Kumar was asked about why he posted such an emotional message for Dhoni. To that query the seamer replied – “I think I posted that on his retirement. Everyone knows what kind of a player he is. But I posted to explain what kind of human being he is. He always helps others. If you speak to anybody about Dhoni, they will all tell you about how helpful he is. He always gives guidance to all the youngsters”.

This statement by Kumar sums up the relation between MS Dhoni and other players.
