Rishabh Pant played a captain’s knock in tonight’s game vs Royal Challengers Bangalore. He hit an unbeaten half century as he hit 58 in 48 balls and hit 6 fours. However, that was not enough as Delhi lost a humdinger by 1 run. Despite the best of efforts by Pant, he could make his team cross the victory line in the last over.
Naturally, after the match, Pant was thoroughly disappointed. Pant was on mic, right after the innings was completed. He said ” Obviously I am feeling disappointed, specially when you have lost the game. The Royal Challengers Bangalore got 10-15 runs extra on this wicket. Hetmyer played a brilliant innings and it was because of him, we got close to the target. When it was the last over, we were thinking whoever, gets the strike, has to finish the job for the team and achieve the target.
That’s what we were planning, but in the end we were one run short and lost the match. While fielding, we counted the overs really well, but in the end, the spinners weren’t getting the required help which we expected from the pitch to get. So, in the end, I had to give the ball to Stoinis.
Pant emotional statement
Also, It’s good to take positives from all the matches, whether win or lose. As a young team, Delhi Capitals would like to learn from each and every game. Also, they would want to improve each and every day and each game.
What Pant wanted to convey in his statement was that, as a player and captain of the side, he was terribly disappointed. He praised Shimron Hetmyer for his amazing cameo of 53 from just 25 balls. It had 2 fours and four sixes. It was due to him that Delhi got close to the target.
Then Pant said that in the last over, both he and Hetmyer were trying to hit the required runs as they wanted to finish the game themselves. Also, Pant clarified that the spinners were not getting enough help in the last overs, so he had to throw the ball to Marcus Stoinis to bowl the final over.
