The final of the ICC World Test Championship is set for a tense fourth day. On the third day of the test, New Zealand bowlers made sure they moved ahead of India for the race to become the inaugural champion of test cricket, though not by much.
After India were bowled out for 217 runs, they needed quick wickets. However, this did not happen as the New Zealand openers were disciplined against the new ball. They kept leaving well outside off and since the Indian pacers lacked the ability to bring the ball back in left handers, both the openers found it easy to negotiate the Indian pacers.
It was Ravi Ashwin who got the much needed breakthrough for India. The premier Indian off spinner lured Tom Latham into playing an off drive. However, he was beaten by the flight and Virat Kohli took the catch at covers to send Latham on his way.
The left hander scored 30 runs and formed a 70 runs partnership with Devon Conway. New Zealand skipper Kane Willamson came to bat at number 3 and added 31 runs with Conway. Then, the latter was dismissed for a well made 54. Also, this was his 3rd 50+ score in as many games. In his first two tests also, Conway had hit a century in debut test and an 80 in the following test.
Funny moment of Rohit
Conway became a victim of Ishant Sharma as the lanky pacer got the reward of some quality bowling. He bowled a length ball to the left hander who tried to flick it over mid on. However, he was beaten by the angle of the ball and offered a simple catch. Hence, the fielder at mid on Mohammad Shami took an easy catch to dismiss Devon Conway.
Amidst all this a funny moment happened in the match. It was during India’s innings, when Virat Kohli started to bat earlier in the day. As soon as the Indian skipper came to crease, Rohit Sharma took a binocular and started to watch Kohli bat from the help of it. The picture quickly became viral on social media.
