Irfan Pathan was termed as the wonder boy of Indian cricket when he initially burst onto the scene. His prodigious swing, along with decent batting skills made him an over night star, in Indian cricket while he was still in his teens.

The way he swung the ball with his lovely left arm action, people even went to the extent of comparing him with the legendary Wasim Akram. During early days of Pathan’s career, his banana swing and Yorkers were actually reminiscent of Wasim. He further enhanced his reputation by taking a sensational hat trick. It was the first over of the deciding test match of 2006 tour of Pakistan.

However, his form then tapered off. His swing and wicket taking ability vanished. He was shunted out of the team. He did make a successful comeback in the 2007 World T20. But, the swing which made him an overnight sensation was missing. He made a comeback more as an all rounder rather than a strike bowler.

After that, he could never reach the heights he got early in his career and slowly found himself totally out of reckoning.

Pathan’s last international appearence was in 2012 and he took his retirement last year in January.

Watch Irfan Pathan again!

Now, his fans will have the golden opportunity of watching him again. Pathan will take part in the Road safety league to be held from March 5 where he will represent India legends. Both the Pathan brothers, Irfan and Yusuf will play for India legends in the tournament.

The Road Safety World series is a cricket T20 league, arranged to spread awareness about road safety amongst public. Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of the league. Initially, its first season was planned last year. Accordingly, four games were played, but, it was cancelled owing to the Corona Virus scare.

Last year, India legends had played just one game against Sri Lanka legends before the tournament was called off. In that game, India beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets.

Match Winning performance

Irfan Pathan was at his best during that game. While bowling, he took 1 wicket of his 4 overs giving away 31 runs. However, he turned back the clock while India were chasing. Coming in at 62-4 in 11th over, India legends required 77 more runs in just a little more than 9 overs. Things were looking difficult for Indian legends.

However, that’s when Pathan showed his batting skills. He thumped 3 huge sixes en route 31 balls 57* as he took his team to victory with more than an over to spare.

He and MS Gony added 58 runs in just 24 deliveries as India legends cantered to victory. For his brilliant all round performances, Irfan Pathan was adjudged the Man of the match.

With Pathan again to be a part of the Indian legends team, fans can expect much more fire works with bat and ball by the ex Indian player!
