In a blistering start to Vijay Hazare trophy season 2021, Ishan Kishan blasted 173 runs in a mere 94 balls. This helped his team reach a whopping 422 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. The game which was being played at Holkar stadium in Indore between Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh started on a sombre note for Jharkhand. The opening batsman Utkarsh was dismissed by senior Madhya Pradesh bowler Ishwar Pandey. He was adjudged LBW at a individual score of 6 and team score of 10 runs. Due to this, Kishan started off slowly and watchfully and gradually picked up the pace.

Kishan’s fifty came off just 40 balls and the next 50 runs came up at even better speed. He completed his hundred off 74 balls. However after completing the century, what followed was a display of carnage by the batsman. He went on to smash 71 runs before getting dismissed on his 94th delivery. In all Ishan Kishan blasted 11 huge sixes and 19 boundaries. He was ably supported by middle order trio of Virat Singh, Sumit Kumar and Anukul Roy who all hit fifties at a quick pace making sure Jharkhand crossed the score of 400 runs.

Kishan was particularly severe on Puneet Datey and Saransh Jain who gave runs at around 10 runs an over. Kishan was dismissed by Gaurav Yadav when he tried to hit another six and was caught by Shubham Sharma at the team score of 240 runs in the 28th over. The innings of Ishan Kishan made sure that Jharkhand hit the second highest score in list A cricket in India. The highest being South africa’s 438-4 due to AB Deviliers unparalled hitting in the deciding encounter of the series between India and South Africa.

In reply to 422, Entire team of Madhya Pradesh was bundled out on 98. They couldn’t cope up with humoungus required run rate of 8.5 for full 50 overs and had to suffer a humiliating 324 runs defeat. Unsurprisingly Ishan Kishan was adjudged the man of the match for his innings of 173 runs. Varun Aaron was the pick of the bowlers for Jharkhand as he picked up 6 wickets giving away just 37 runs.

Ishan Kishan who is a regular at IPL for the multi time champions Mumbai Indians and has put in many a match winning performances for them at various stages of the tournament basically hails from Bihar and debuted in first class cricket for Jharkhand back in 2014.He got picked up by Gujarat Lions in the 2016 of IPL season and was then bought by Mumbai Indians in the season 2018 and since then has been playing for them. His cricketing idols are Adam Gilchrist and MS Dhoni, two all time great wicket keepers.

If Ishan Kishan can carry on his form like this, it can be said that he is surely and certainly following the footsteps of his two cricketing legends idols and we might definitely see more of Ishan Kishan in near future in international cricket.
