Former Indian skipper and legendary keeper batsman MS Dhoni retired more than an year ago. His achievements in international cricket is close to unparalleled. As a batsman, he is the only one to have scored more than 10k runs at an average north of 50. As a captain, he is the only one to have won all the three ICC trophies.
That includes ICC Champions trophy, ICC 50 overs World Cup and ICC 20 overs world cup. Additionally, he led the India to the number 1 ranked test team for close to 18 months. Moreover, he is India’s most successful ODI captain and the second most successful test captain beside Virat Kohli.
One of the reasons Dhoni was so successful was his clever captaincy and street smartness on the field. His tactical decisions and ability to read the situation of the game and the plans of opposition was second to none.
With IPL just round the corner, fans of MS Dhoni have the chance to see him again. If not international cricket, then at least Dhoni is still playing franchise cricket, for the second most successful team, in world’s biggest league. Since a lot of Chennai players are retired or, their young players are uncapped in international cricket, they have started training.
The reason for this early training is, last year’s poor performance by Chennai. It was the first time that the team failed, to reach the playoffs in history of IPL. They barely avoided getting the wooden spoon in points table. Means, getting the bottom of the table.
Monstrous Dhoni Six!
Leading the charge this year is their captain itself, MS Dhoni. He had a run of poor scores in previous year which was reflected, in the team’s ordinary display. To counter this, Dhoni is sweating a lot in nets to iron out any shortcomings in his batting.
There is a video that has come out which, has taken social media by storm. Dhoni can be seen practicing to a spinner. Suddenly at once he comes out of the crease and, absolutely thumps the ball over long on. The ball just takes over and goes out of the stadium!
The shot means that Dhoni has still got it in him. The way he muscled the balls for sixes during his playing days in, international cricket is unforgettable. He might not be playing the senior level cricket now, but the skills which he honed in those times is still intact in him.
Team should better watch out for his batting in this edition of IPL!
