India won the series in some style by winning the second game of the 3 match series. They now sit at a lead of 2-0 with last game being inconsequential. Earlier the Islanders won the toss and elected to bat first. The openers Avishka Fernando and Minod Bhanuka gave a strong start to their team.
They added 77 runs for the first wicket. Then Sri Lanka had to suffer a double whammy as they lost two wickets in as many balls as Yuzvendra Chahal struck. But the main man behind Indian victory was Deepak Chahar.
In this match, Deepak Chahar took 2 wickets in 7 overs. His first wicket was of Dhananjaya De Silva. It was a slower ball from Chahar and batsman tried to hoick it over the infield. However he was beaten by the pace of the ball and could only give a simple catch to mid off where Dhawan easily took the catch.
His next victim was Dasun Shanaka. It was a sensational delivery by the right arm bowler. Accordingly Chahar bowled a knuckle ball to the batsman. Hence he was beaten all ends up when he tried to play all around it. Consequently the ball messed up with his furniture and he was bowled.
The batsman made 8 runs in 11 balls and hit one four. For Sri Lanka Charith Asalanka was the top scorer. He made 65 runs in 68 balls with 6 fours to his name. Also there were 12 wides in the Sri Lankan innings which proves that the Indian bowlers struggled with their line and lengths.
Rousing speech by Dravid
In the batting department he made an unbeaten 69* as India sealed the game. After the match Dravid seemed to be happy. That was visible in the Indian dressing room when Dravid gave a rousing speech after victory. In a snippet shared by BCCI he says :
“They responded but we responded back. Like a champion team, with our backs to the wall, we found a way to win. Very well done to all you, fantastic win.”
