Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah is arguably one of the best bowlers in the world. However, his exploits with the bat are not much as he usually bats at No.11. But the pacer is looking to improve his batting in recent months.
After managing to score his first class fifty in Australia last year, Bumrah is putting more focus on helping the team with crucial runs. The evidence can be clearly seen with the way he batted against England on Day 3.
The 27-year old has toiled hard in the initial phase to negotiate the deliveries. He showed great temperament and technique in his defense. On the other hand, Mohammed Shami was the aggressor. Once Shami was dismissed by Ollie Robinson, Bumrah changed gears.
Instead of knocking the ball and defending, the talented pacer took charge and slogged Robinson across all parts of the ground. Bumrah scored a boundary towards deep mid wicket. However, he followed it with a brilliant six over deep square leg.

Robinson tried to test him with a bouncer but Bumrah was up to the task. He played a beautiful front foot pull for a maximum. The next delivery he tried to heave but got an edge and the ball flew above slips cordon.
Bumrah continued his aggression in the final wicket stand and gave India crucial runs in the match. When India were hopeful of a lead around 65-70, Bumrah’s knock propelled India’s first innings lead to 95 runs.
India’s lower order problem
Going into the series, there was a lot of talk on how India lost the 2018 series in England. One of the key areas was the amount of runs the tail enders scored for both teams. The Indian tail enders were not great for many years.
However, keeping this in mind, Jasprit Bumrah and other bowlers had worked hard in the nets on their batting. This was emphasized before the start of the series and the change was seen today.
India managed to get a sizeable lead for the first innings. But the conditions are slowly becoming batsman friendly and the visitors need to be wary of their approach.
Sachin Tendulkar Reaction on Jasprit Bumrah
Everyone is praising the way Jasprit Bumrah batted in this match. Sachin Tendulkar also admired his batting. He expressed happiness over India’s strong hold in the Test match and described Bumrah’s innings as special.
Formidable lead for #TeamIndia after some important runs added by the tail.
It’ll be interesting to see how England respond after being behind.
By the way, @Jaspritbumrah93 just played the shot of his life today. 😀#ENGvIND
