The final of the road safety league is going on in Raipur. India and Sri Lanka are up against each in the finals. The clash of the two Asian teams will be keenly watched. After Sri Lankan captain Dilshan won the toss and sent India to bat first, India lost the first wicket early.
Danger man Virender Sehwag was dismissed early. He was cleaned up by Rangana Herath. The number three S Badrinath was the next man to go. He was found in front of the wicket against Sanath Jayasuria. The batsman was beaten by a slider from the bowler and was adjudged LBW. He made 7 runs.
The batsman at number 4 was Yuvraj Singh. He has been in great touch in this tournament. Like the Yuvraj of old, he was hitting sixes at will in the league games of the road safety league.
It was evident again in the finals. Sri Lanka was bowling cleverly and had not allowed India to break free. Consequently, the Indian batting had been tied and the runs were not coming quickly. India needed a big over to gain some momentum. Then came Dilshan to bowl.
Yuvraj hits 6,6!
The Sri Lankan skipper came on to bowl the 10th over of the innings. Tendulkar took single on the first delivery of the over. Following ball was a short and half tracker delivery by the bowler as Yuvraj took full toll of it. Hence, he absolutely smashed it for a huge six over mid wicket. Next ball was a dot but then again the fourth ball was a long hop. Yuvraj again punished it by thumping it over deep mid wicket for another six.
Two sixes were hit in three deliveries and suddenly India had found the momentum. Sri Lanka were under pressure of all kinds. In a final, score board pressure always matters and that is what India is looking for. Moreover, with India legends batting right down to number 9, they could target more than 180 which could prove a match winning total in a final.
When Sri Lanka bats, a lot will depend on how Jayasuriya and Dilshan would open for Sri Lanka. If one of them starts hitting, this could be a cracker of a match and worthy of a final.
