The much awaited final of the World Test Championship is about to begin in few days of time. New Zealand and India will face off each other from 18th June at Southampton. A Championship that began in July 2019 will finish its first edition in June 2021. While New Zealand had already reached England and is busy playing a test series of 2 matches, India has reached England on 3rd of June and is still under Quarantine.

A lot of experts and former cricketers have weighed in their opinion on the finals. Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh too expressed his thoughts on the match. The left hander believes that rather than just a single match, this should have been a three test series.

“I feel in a situation like this, there should be a best of 3 Tests, because if you lose the first one then you can come back in the next two. India will have a slight disadvantage because New Zealand is already playing Test cricket in England. There are 8-10 practice sessions but there’s no substitute for match practice. It will be an even contest but New Zealand will have an edge”. Said Yuvraj on Sports Tak.

Earlier, Ravi Shastri was also saying the same thing. The Indian coach was of the opinion that it should have been a 3 test series. Hence, the winner of the series would be the champion. With Yuvraj supporting him now, it puts even more weight on his statement.

Further, the former explosive southpaw added – “There are 8-10 practice sessions but there’s no substitute for match-practice. It will be an even contest but New Zealand will have an edge. I do believe India is very strong because lately, we have been winning outside the country. I think our batting is stronger, in bowling they are at par”. ( excerpts from Sports Tak)

Meanwhile, the first test between New Zealand and England at Lords ended in a draw, with rain playing a spoilsport. The second tests between the two will begin from 10 June at Edgbaston. This will no doubt be an ideal preparation for the Kiwis before the finals. On the other hand, Indian team is still under Quarantine period. They will come out of the period on 11th of June and will begin their training for the winner takes all clash.
