Dhoni Won Matches For India From Difficult Situations- Irfan Pathan

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan has played many matches under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. The latter was the most successful captain in the history of Indian cricket.

Dhoni is known for his calmness even in dire and tense situations. Then captain showed Indian cricket a new way to tackle situations. His match awareness coupled with finishing capabilities meant Dhoni gave many memorable victories to Indian cricket under his tenure.

Comparing the current era under Virat Kohli to MS Dhoni, Pathan opined that Dhoni was much calmer compared to current crop. The current Indian team are known for aggressiveness and have continued the success of Dhoni and Ganguly.

“In Dhoni’s era, we saw a calmness and in Virat Kohli’s era we saw aggression. You need both these qualities to be successful,” Irfan said on Star Sports Connected.

“A player, how he uses his calmness and his aggression to perform better, we have seen in both the eras,” Pathan highlighted.

The retired all rounder also credited Dhoni for winning matches from difficult situations. Dhoni was arguably the best finisher in cricket during his prime alongside the likes of Michael Bevan. He was also full of praise for current Indian captain Virat Kohli.

“We have seen MS Dhoni come at the end and win us matches from difficult situations and we have seen Virat Kohli’s amazing record in Test cricket,” he further said.

Dhoni Remains India’s Most Successful Captain

MS Dhoni remains the only captain in world cricket to win all the three major ICC trophies. On the other hand, over the years Dhoni have achieved so much success as a captain. His accolades meant he eclipsed Sourav Ganguly, Mohammad Azharuddin to become India’s most successful captain.

The current Indian team is arguably the strongest in the world at the moment. They are achieving strong success both at home and away. However, it will take few years for Virat Kohli to catch up to his former skipper.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has recently announced his retirement for international cricket. The 39-year old is currently concentrated on IPL 2020. He will once again lead Chennai Super Kings in UAE in the upcoming edition.

Dhoni fans across the world are now even more anxious and excited to watch their super star in action. Although IPL schedule is yet to be announced, Chennai Super Kings are expected to take on Mumbai Indians in the first match of IPL 2020 on September 19.
