Ravichandran Ashwin is India’s best spinner by some distance in the current era. Even in international cricket, he is arguably the best off spinner currently. The Tamil Nadu man is a genuine match winner in test matches. He has brought gory to India in countless number of games. Being the second quickest bowler to take 400 test wickets is a testimony to this fact as he has bamboozled batsmen one after another.

The reason why Ashwin is the best in business is due to his meticulous preparation before the start of the series. His excellent method of training was the reason why he outperformed Nathan Lyon in the Australian series early this year. With England test series coming up, Ashwin is again making sure he leaves no stone unturned to prepare for the high profile series.

Ashwin has a phenomenal record in conditions which suits him like Subcontinent. However it is his stats in SENA countries that puts a question mark on his legendary status. While he has played too few a tests in New Zealand and South Africa to have any significant impact, he has participated in decent number of tests in both England and Australia. However he is yet to take a five for in either of the countries.

This is where Ashwin would like to improve. Hence there will be a lot of eyes on individual performance of India’s premier off spinner. Considering this, Ashwin has begun his training for the series much ahead of his team mates who are still enjoying their holidays.

Ashwin impresses with his line and length!

The 34 year old has made himself available for a county game with the team Surrey. Accordingly Ashwin played for them in a match vs Somerset at the Oval. The latter won the toss and elected to bat first. On a docile wicket, Ashwin took the new ball against Devon Conway and Steven Davies. While he didn’t prove to be effective in his first spell, Ashwin struck in second.

It was left hander Tom Lammonby who was his victim. The south paw tried to leave a delivery alone that was pitched in line. He thought that the delivery will turn enough to pass the stumps without any issues. However to his horror he saw the ball going straight on and hitting the stumps. The 21 year old Tom had no idea how that happened but still he had to vacate the crease.

At the end of first day, Ashwin had figures of 28-6-70-1.
