Rishabh Pant had an off day with the bat today after a long time. The explosive left hander could make just 4 runs in 22 balls. That innings was too slow by Pant’s standards as he found it hard to negotiate the brilliant bowling of Kiwi pacers. His only scoring shot was a boundary which he got when he flicked a delivery off his pads for a four.

Coming in at number 6, Pant walked to the crease after the dismissal of Virat Kohli. The Indian captain fell prey to some quality seam bowling by the tall pacer Kyle Jamieson. Moreover, Kohli did not trouble the scorers on third morning as he was dismissed for an individual score of 44. It was the same score on which he had gone unbeaten last night when rain had stopped the play.

The Indian fans had hoped that Pant could play one of his match turning innings like he has been doing over the past 6 months. Whether it be the Brisbane vs Australia or be it Ahmedabad vs England, Pant had found a way to score quick runs against a quality bowling side in tough batting conditions. However, it was not the case today.

Pant fails with bat but continues to chirp from behind wickets!

After curbing his aggressive instincts for close to 20 balls, Pant finally took the bait and paid the price instantly. The left hander tried to drive a delivery away from his body as the ball took the outside edge. Consequently, it went to slips where the fielder took the catch to send Rishabh Pant on his way back to the pavilion. His wicket left India in trouble from which they could never recover

He may have failed with the bat, but this did not stop Pant from his commentary which he dies so often from behind the stumps. It was again on display where he is seen pro active in giving suggestions to the bowlers and the fielders.

It was the 23th over of the innings and New Zealand was yet to lose a wicket. Ravi Ashwin was bowling to Latham and a substitute fielder in the form of Mohammad Siraj had replaced another fielder in the 30 yard ring. Consequently, just before a delivery was about to be bowled, Pant said – “Siraj taiyar rehna sidha haath me aayega”. ( Siraj be ready it will come straight in hands).
