Ashish Nehra Reveals MS Dhoni’s Inspiration During 2011 World Cup

Former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra has revealed MS Dhoni’s words which motivated him to play the complete 2011 world cup. Nehra was struggling with an injury during the mega event.

And he decided to opt out of the world cup. But then skipper MS Dhoni has appealed and suggested Nehra to not take any decision in haste. It is a well known thing that Nehra was facing back problems ahead of world cup.

But Dhoni’s words meant Nehra managed to maintain decent fitness as he played important role in India’s title triumph. Despite not being in the best fitness in the world cup, Nehra did play a major role especially in the semi finals against Pakistan.

Nehra recollected the incident and suggested it was MS Dhoni’s call that helped him pllay three games in that world cup. Also, he praised Dhoni being the chief architect for India’s title triumph after 28 long years.

“Listen, just hang in there for another two to three weeks. See how you feel. Be with the physio, sort it out with him, wait for two-three weeks and then we’ll see how it goes.”

Ashish Nehra- Long Career Rattled With Injuries

Ashish Nehra is undoubtedly one of the greatest Indian pace bowlers ever. However, his career was always halted due to some sort of injury. Despite all the setbacks, the cricketer always bounced back and made comebacks to Indian team time and again.

He is one of the very few to have such long career than spanned close to two decades. He also face a very bad fracture during the match against Pakistan in 2011 world cup. Nehra managed 33/1 in his 10 over quota and played a massive role in India’s route to final.

“I had a massive fracture. The day after the final itself, I left for Australia for surgery. It was very disappointing but it was satisfying as well that we won the final, we won the World Cup. It was a roller-coaster ride for me but in the end, I did manage to land safely,” Nehra concluded.

Always smiling despite all the lows and setbacks, Nehra has earned a name for himself not just for being a great cricketer but also a great human being. He is still actively participating in cricket in the roles of mentor and commentator whenever possible.

The race to win IPL title sponsorship is getting heated as the deadline looms. Education startup Unacademy is the latest company to register their interest. The firm has reportedly has picked up the bid papers for title sponsorship.

However, they did not make any comments on the development yet. It is also interesting to see that Unacademy are already in the central pool of sponsors for IPL from 2020 to 2023. After Chinese mobile manufacturer VIVO dropping out last month, BCCI are trying to find a new title sponsor for IPL this season.

The board has already declared the deadline date for bids on August 14. A final announcement on the new sponsor is expected during this weekend. Earlier this week, there was also news on Patanjali interested in the sponsorship.

Apart from these two Indian companies, there are few other firms that are interested. Companies like Amazon, Byju’s, PayTm and Dream 11 are expected to be in the race.

“I can confirm that Unacademy has shown interest and picked the bid papers. I have heard they will be submitting a bid and are pretty serious. So, Patanjali, if they bid, will have competition,” a source told TOI.

BCCI looking to minimize revenue drop

Under the deal with VIVO, BCCI earned Rs 440 crore per year. But the board is looking to provide discounts for new sponsors as this will be valid for only 4 months, 13 days.

Also, they are looking to coup close to 350 crore to minimize the revenue drop ahead of new season. VIVO is expected to be back as IPL title owner next season.

While, Unacademy did not make any comments, an industry insider has reportedly told TOI that the company is ready to take the chance.

“Unlike some of the other Edu-Tech apps, Unacademy has 100 per cent Indian investment. And four and half months is the perfect time to get associated with a brand like IPL and broaden their horizons in terms of brand outreach,” he added.

Indian Premier League will be played outside India this year. The games are scheduled in United Arab Emirates due to Covid crisis. All the franchises have already begun their preparations as they will be flying out to Dubai as early as next week.

MS Dhoni Can Play Well Into His 40s, Says Shane Watson

Chennai Super Kings opener Shane Watson was full of praise for MS Dhoni ahead of IPL 2020. The veteran cricketer believes Dhoni can play well into his 40s, as his fitness levels are very good.

After making a huge impact in IPL final last season, Shane Watson became a fan favorite for Chennai fans. Although, Chennai lost just by 1 run to Mumbai, Shane Watson has earned the plaudits of critics and fans alike after IPL final 2019.

However, with new season comes new challenges. The team are currently preparing for IPL 2020 that will be played next month in UAE. In an exclusive interview to Times of India, Shane Watson feels the slow pitches in UAE could be a massive advantage to CSK.

“The pitches are going to be on the slower side. We have some high-quality spinners in our side and we should be able to capitalize,” said Watson

Chennai Super Kings can consider themselves unlucky after losing last year’s final with just one run. But Shane Watson looked at the positive side of the result and hopes that the team can build on it this season.

“It’s always shattering to come this close to winning the tournament like we did in the final against Mumbai Indians last year. MI was one of dominant teams in 2019, and for us, to have come this close was a terrific effort. There were so many positives for us from the last season and we will look to take that and start afresh this year,” he added.

Shane Watson lauds MS Dhoni

The 39-year old also backed his skipper MS Dhoni to play for many more years. He primarily thinks the way Dhoni maintained his body would help him to have a long career.

“MS still loves playing. He is an evergreen cricketer and it feels like he just doesn’t age. Look, with the kind of skills he has and the hard yards he puts in, MS can go on and play into his 40s. MS has been able to manage his body well.

“The way he is able to run consistently and showcase skills behind the stumps are just incredible. I am a big fan of MS and would want to see him continue playing whether it’s for CSK or internationally,” Watson said.

There has been lot of speculations on the future of MS Dhoni in Indian cricket. However, the legendary player is looking to make the most of IPL 2020. By playing a strong IPL, there is a very good chance for Dhoni to play T20 world cup next summer.

On the other hand, being the captain of Chennai Super Kings, he will have a massive job of handling expectations to deliver another IPL trophy.

IPL 2020: Rajasthan Royals Strongest Probable XI Prediction

0
Rajasthan Royals (Credits: Twitter)

Rajasthan Royals are always the dark horses in the Indian Premier League title race. The inaugural champions of IPL are known for their investments in young players. Over the years, many top talents in Indian cricket have donned the jersey of Rajasthan.

Although they managed to win the first title in 2008, Rajasthan Royals never really challenged for title apart from 2013 edition. However, with so much talent in their ranks coupled with playing in UAE, Rajasthan might fancy their chances this season.

Here is the most probable XI that would make Rajasthan Royals strong in this edition.

Openers (Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal)

Jos Buttler (Credits: AFP)

Jos Buttler is undoubtedly one of the best players in IPL 2019. The Englishman had a scintillating season and Rajasthan fans will hope to see him repeat his accolades once again.

Yashaswi Jaiswal was one of the best talents in U-19 world cup. The management will be hoping to see him step up and deliver in IPL this season. Of course, the team can still shuffle their batting lineup by promoting Sanju Samson or Robin Uthappa if the youngster fails.

Middle Order (Steve Smith, Sanju Samson and Robin Uthappa)

The middle order seems to be the greatest strength for Rajasthan Royals this season. They packed it with proven stars and experienced players.

Sanju Samson (Credits: IPL)

Steve Smith will return to IPL fold this year after being banned last season. Sanju Samson is one of the main stays for Rajasthan Royals for few years now. He will once again be the most important Indian player in their team.

The signing of Robin Uthappa could be the biggest gamble Rajasthan took. He is one of the most gifted players but KKR decided to move away from him. However, the veteran star will provide both stability and flexibility to this Rajasthan team as he can play in numerous batting positions.

All rounders (Ben Stokes, Tom Curran, Riyan Parag)

Ben Stokes (Credits: IPL)

Ben Stokes is undoubtedly the best all rounder in world cricket. The talented England cricketer will provide depth in all three departments and will be a massive player for Rajasthan Royals once again.

Tom Curran needs to fill in for Jofra Archer this season. Although, it is a big ask, Tom Curran has proven himself across the domestic T20 leagues across the world. A proper outing in IPL this season would pave way into England T20 team.

Riyan Parag is relatively low name in this lineup but the youngster can definitely spring a surprise. He had a great year with Rajasthan Royals last season and he will try to emulate or achieve better next month.

Bowlers (Jaydev Unadkat, Shreyas Gopal, Ankit Rapoot)

Jaydev Unadkat (Credits: IPL)

Rajasthan Royals would most likely go with an all Indian bowling attack. Spinner Shreyas Gopal has been a constant performer for Rajasthan Royals in the past couple of seasons.

However, should he show any inconsistently, Mayank Markande could replace him in the final XI. On the other hand, Jaydev Unadkat is the star Indian bowler in this team. However, the veteran bowler failed to emulate his RPS performances for Rajasthan over the last two years.

But with a strong Ranji season behind him, Unadkat is rearing to go into the new season. He should be able to pay back the trust Rajasthan management kept in him in IPL 2020.

The other pacer can be between Ankit Rajpoot or Varun Aaron. But Ankit Rajpoot had a good IPL season and proved to be the better option with his performances in IPL recently.

So this could be the strongest Rajasthan XI in IPL 2020. Do let us know your thoughts in comments below!

India will play host to ICC Men’s T20 world cup next year, while Australia will host the 2022 editions, ICC announced. Ever since the corona outbreak happened, the world has come to a stand still.

Many major sporting events including Tokyo Olympics, Euro 2020, T20 World Cup 2020 etc were cancelled. Australia were initially intended to host the T20 World Cup this year. However, with this major crisis the tournament was cancelled.

However, Australia will now instead host the tournament in 2022. Meanwhile, India which was planned to host T20 World Cup in 2021 will proceed as per earlier plans.

All the teams qualified for T20 World Cup 2020 will now be eligible to play in 2021 edition in India. Also, International Cricket Council (ICC) will release a new qualification rounds for 2022 world cup soon.

The apex body received a lot of criticism for postponing the mega event this year. Some member nations like Pakistan made allegations that ICC cancelled the tournament to make way for IPL 2020.

Women’s World Cup 2021 Postponed

ICC Women’s world cup was schedule for 2021 in New Zealand. However, the tournament is now postponed to the following year, 2022.

The last women’s world cup took place in England in 2017. As per the initial reports, Women’s world cup should start during February- March window in 2022.

“There has been no women’s international cricket played since the conclusion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year and due to the varying impact of COVID-19 globally that is likely to remain the situation for a number of the teams,” Chief Executive Manu Sawhney said in a statement.

“Moving the event by 12 months gives all competing teams the chance to play a sufficient level of cricket ahead of both the qualification event and leading into a Cricket World Cup so the integrity of the tournament is maintained,” he added.

Cricket is slowly getting back into normalcy as measures are in place to tackle corona virus. England became the first cricket nation to host a test series last month.

Now, Caribbean Premier League 2020 is set to be played next week. On the other hand, Indian Premier League will be played in UAE from next month. However, we are still very far away from having fans back in the stadium.

It might take another six to twelve months to at least have few fans in the stadiums as Corona is showing no signs of slowing down.

Suresh Raina Very Important For CSK

Suresh Raina is one of the best players in IPL ever. The talented left handed player would walk into any IPL side. Such has been his class and form, Raina was the best player for Chennai Super Kings with the bat.

In fact, he is the second highest run getter in IPL history, only next to Virat Kohli. After a narrow loss to Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings are determined to make a challenge for title once again.

The team is filled with veterans and experienced domestic campaigners. However, Raina will once again be the main man for the team. His form could easily propel CSK to their fourth IPL title.

Chennai Super Kings are already planning to reach UAE ahead of other franchises. This will give them advantage to study the conditions and prepare better than the rest.

On the other hand, Suresh Raina has recently trained with Indian wicket keeper batsman Rishabh Pant in his facility. Both the players are getting ready to participate in IPL next month.

With T20 World Cup scheduled in India next year, this could be a massive chance for Suresh Raina to impress selectors and get back into the team. Indian Premier League will begin on September 18 and finals are scheduled on November 10.

Ramiz Raja Slams Pakistan After Manchester Defeat To England

Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja slammed Pakistan cricket team after losing first test against England. Despite being in command for majority of the test match, Pakistan lost to the hosts after England chased down 277.

The Pakistan team managed to gain upper hand at the end of first innings. They managed to get a huge 107 run lead. However, with Pakistan once again being Pakistan, they faltered in the most unusual way during their second innings.

The batting lineup were made a paltry 169  before getting all-out in their second innings. On the other hand, England struggled chasing 277 as they found themselves at struggling at 117/5.

But all rounder Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler stitched a century stand between them. This helped England clinch the first test by three wickets. Speaking after the match, Ramiz Raja was critical of Pakistan team as they failed to register the win despite dominating the game.

“Only Pakistan could have lost from that position. With such a lead they may have thought 250 would be enough to roll over England. With five wickets down and big guns back in the pavilion at 117, allowing over 100-run (139 runs) partnership between Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes is the disappointing part. Mind you, Buttler was playing for his position in the XI,” Ramiz Raja said.

“Pakistan were little confused during that partnership. This has been happening with Pakistan quite often, unfortunately. It was a superb partnership no doubt but why did Pakistan allow it? There is a reason their ranking is low in Tests (No 7).”

Azhar Ali Under Scanner

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali was under scanner after the defeat. The skipper did not try anything out of the box to try and break the partnership between Buttler and Woakes.

Instead, they went for a defensive approach as the partnership progressed. This has led to easy singles and little pressure on the batters. Eventually, Woakes remained till the end and saw England home in the first test at Manchester.

“When you got a captain, who is not in great form, the coaching staff has to be more proactive. Also, they get a good perspective sitting outside. England were allowed to take easy singles, close to 40 singles were taken by Buttler and Woakes through point,” he concluded.

Pakistan will play two more test matches in Ageas Bowl, Southampton. The visitors will look to make amends to their mistakes in the first test. The second test will begin on August 13, while last test is scheduled on August 21.

IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings Predicted Starting XI

0
Sportzpics / IPL

Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful teams in IPL history. Their consistency in the tournament is unparalleled and no team even comes close to this aspect. Although, Mumbai Indians are the most successful teams with 4 IPL trophies, CSK has managed to reach knock out rounds more than any other team.

Under the able leadership of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings are once again ready to fight for title this season. After losing IPL 2019 final by just 1 run to Mumbai Indians at Hyderabad, Chennai are eager to win IPL 2020 and reclaim their position as the best team in IPL history.

So with that being said, let us look at the potential starting XI Chennai Super Kings could field in IPL 2020 which is scheduled in United Arab Emirates.

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis has been one of the most consistent players for CSK over the past few years. However, he lost his place in South African national team. But a strong outing in this edition will definitely ensure his place in ICC T20 World Cup in India next year.

Considering, Shane Watson did not play much cricket after last IPL season, Faf du Plessis will slot in as overseas opener. It will be hard to overlook Shane Watson but du Plessis should be the prime candidate.

Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu is one of the vital cogs in CSK batting lineup. But the veteran cricketer failed to replicate his incredible performances of IPL 2018 in last season.

Ambati Rayudu (Source: Twitter)

However, the experience and adaptability will give him head start at UAE this season. Should he fail, Chennai Super Kings already have Murali Vijay as backup in the opener’s role.

Suresh Raina

The most successful batter in Chennai Super Kings’ history, Suresh Raina will once again be the main stay for the team. His exploits play a major role in the team’s success. He is the backbone for Chennai’s batting order.

Suresh Raina (Credits: AFP)

Suresh Raina has not played much cricket post IPL 2019. With corona crisis, most of the domestic cricket remained suspended over the past six months. Considering his class, Raina should be able to regain his touch before IPL begins.

MS Dhoni

It is a no brainer. Dhoni is the captain of the side and the tactical master brain behind CSK’s success over the years. The 39-year old is looking to make the most out of this season.

MS Dhoni (Credits: Twitter)

The fans are eagerly waiting to watch the legend back in action. A fruitful season will keep his doubters in check and boost his chances to play for India in the upcoming T20 world cup next year.

Ravindra Jadeja

Jadjea has grown leaps and bounds in his career. He is arguably the most complete all rounder in Indian cricket at the moment. He can contribute across all three departments.

Ravindra Jadeja. (Credits: Twitter)

Chennai Super Kings will rely heavily on the capabilities of Jadeja as he remains their most important player. If he can replicate his form in this season, there will be a very good chance for Chennai to win their 4th IPL trophy.

Dwayne Bravo

Another big match player and an important allrounder, Dwayne Bravo has become a cult hero for Chennai Super Kings’ fans over the years. He played major role in helping the team to win multiple titles.

Dwayne Bravo (Source: IANS)

Although, he is on the fag end of his career, the team management believes there is still a lot Bravo can offer. He will be important for Chennai in UAE next month.

Sam Curran

One of the most exciting young all rounders in world cricket, Sam Curran has made a name for himself. Over the past year, Curran has been a mainstay for England across formats. He would provide much needed impetus to this aging Chennai squad.

Sam Curran (Source: Twitter)

The talented youngster could contribute with both ball and bat. He along with Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja will improve the balance of the team and provide numerous options for MS Dhoni.

Piyush Chawla

One of the best bowlers in IPL history, Piyush Chawla was one of the vital players for Kolkata Knight Riders in recent years. However, his experience in IPL will be a massive bonus for CSK this season.

Piyush Chawal, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina were part of CSK’s pre-IPL camp this year. (Twitter/CSK

Chawla could slot in as the lone full time spinner in this bowling attack. The 31-year old will hope to perform to his best levels to keep his place.

Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur is one of the best pace bowlers in Indian cricket. The youngster has the talent but lacks consistency in international cricket.

Shardul Thakur (Credits: Twiiter)

But under the able leadership of MS Dhoni, he will be one of the stars in this bowling line up. An in form Shardul is a menace for any opposition and CSK fans hope he can perform to his potential.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar is undoubtedly the best bowler for Chennai in IPL 2019. The talented swing bowler managed to provide breakthroughs with his skillful bowling inside the powerplay overs. He earned plaudits for fans and analysts alike during last season.

Deepak Chahar. (Source: PTI)

Initially a new ball bowler, Chahar has developed his death bowling skills as well. He will be the spearhead for Chennai Super Kings bowling in IPL 2020.

Josh Hazlewood

Hazlewood is one of the best pacers in the world in test cricket. However, he is yet to make his IPL debut. But this could be a season where he can showcase his skills.

Josh Hazlewood (Credits: AFP)

After losing his T20 spot in Australian national team in 2016, Hazlewood is keen to make an impact. An outstanding IPL this year would help his chances to enter the squad for next year’s T20 world cup.

Chennai Super Kings Squad for IPL 2020: MS Dhoni (C), M Vijay, Faf du Plessis, Shane Watson, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, Kedar Jadhav, Narayan Jagadeesan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Dwayne Bravo, Sam Curran, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, KM Asif, Monu Kumar, Lungi Ngidi, Josh Hazlewood, Harbhajan Singh, Karn Sharma, Piyush Chawla, Imran Tahir, Mitchell Santner, Sai Kishore.
