Ramiz Raja Slams Pakistan After Manchester Defeat To England

Former Pakistan cricketer Ramiz Raja slammed Pakistan cricket team after losing first test against England. Despite being in command for majority of the test match, Pakistan lost to the hosts after England chased down 277.

The Pakistan team managed to gain upper hand at the end of first innings. They managed to get a huge 107 run lead. However, with Pakistan once again being Pakistan, they faltered in the most unusual way during their second innings.

The batting lineup were made a paltry 169  before getting all-out in their second innings. On the other hand, England struggled chasing 277 as they found themselves at struggling at 117/5.

But all rounder Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler stitched a century stand between them. This helped England clinch the first test by three wickets. Speaking after the match, Ramiz Raja was critical of Pakistan team as they failed to register the win despite dominating the game.

“Only Pakistan could have lost from that position. With such a lead they may have thought 250 would be enough to roll over England. With five wickets down and big guns back in the pavilion at 117, allowing over 100-run (139 runs) partnership between Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes is the disappointing part. Mind you, Buttler was playing for his position in the XI,” Ramiz Raja said.

“Pakistan were little confused during that partnership. This has been happening with Pakistan quite often, unfortunately. It was a superb partnership no doubt but why did Pakistan allow it? There is a reason their ranking is low in Tests (No 7).”

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali was under scanner after the defeat. The skipper did not try anything out of the box to try and break the partnership between Buttler and Woakes.

Instead, they went for a defensive approach as the partnership progressed. This has led to easy singles and little pressure on the batters. Eventually, Woakes remained till the end and saw England home in the first test at Manchester.

“When you got a captain, who is not in great form, the coaching staff has to be more proactive. Also, they get a good perspective sitting outside. England were allowed to take easy singles, close to 40 singles were taken by Buttler and Woakes through point,” he concluded.

Pakistan will play two more test matches in Ageas Bowl, Southampton. The visitors will look to make amends to their mistakes in the first test. The second test will begin on August 13, while last test is scheduled on August 21.

IPL 2020: Chennai Super Kings Predicted Starting XI

0
Sportzpics / IPL

Chennai Super Kings are one of the most successful teams in IPL history. Their consistency in the tournament is unparalleled and no team even comes close to this aspect. Although, Mumbai Indians are the most successful teams with 4 IPL trophies, CSK has managed to reach knock out rounds more than any other team.

Under the able leadership of MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings are once again ready to fight for title this season. After losing IPL 2019 final by just 1 run to Mumbai Indians at Hyderabad, Chennai are eager to win IPL 2020 and reclaim their position as the best team in IPL history.

So with that being said, let us look at the potential starting XI Chennai Super Kings could field in IPL 2020 which is scheduled in United Arab Emirates.

Faf du Plessis

Faf du Plessis has been one of the most consistent players for CSK over the past few years. However, he lost his place in South African national team. But a strong outing in this edition will definitely ensure his place in ICC T20 World Cup in India next year.

Considering, Shane Watson did not play much cricket after last IPL season, Faf du Plessis will slot in as overseas opener. It will be hard to overlook Shane Watson but du Plessis should be the prime candidate.

Ambati Rayudu

Ambati Rayudu is one of the vital cogs in CSK batting lineup. But the veteran cricketer failed to replicate his incredible performances of IPL 2018 in last season.

However, the experience and adaptability will give him head start at UAE this season. Should he fail, Chennai Super Kings already have Murali Vijay as backup in the opener’s role.

Suresh Raina

The most successful batter in Chennai Super Kings’ history, Suresh Raina will once again be the main stay for the team. His exploits play a major role in the team’s success. He is the backbone for Chennai’s batting order.

Suresh Raina has not played much cricket post IPL 2019. With corona crisis, most of the domestic cricket remained suspended over the past six months. Considering his class, Raina should be able to regain his touch before IPL begins.

MS Dhoni

It is a no brainer. Dhoni is the captain of the side and the tactical master brain behind CSK’s success over the years. The 39-year old is looking to make the most out of this season.

The fans are eagerly waiting to watch the legend back in action. A fruitful season will keep his doubters in check and boost his chances to play for India in the upcoming T20 world cup next year.

Ravindra Jadeja

Jadjea has grown leaps and bounds in his career. He is arguably the most complete all rounder in Indian cricket at the moment. He can contribute across all three departments.

Chennai Super Kings will rely heavily on the capabilities of Jadeja as he remains their most important player. If he can replicate his form in this season, there will be a very good chance for Chennai to win their 4th IPL trophy.

Dwayne Bravo

Another big match player and an important allrounder, Dwayne Bravo has become a cult hero for Chennai Super Kings’ fans over the years. He played major role in helping the team to win multiple titles.

Although, he is on the fag end of his career, the team management believes there is still a lot Bravo can offer. He will be important for Chennai in UAE next month.

Sam Curran

One of the most exciting young all rounders in world cricket, Sam Curran has made a name for himself. Over the past year, Curran has been a mainstay for England across formats. He would provide much needed impetus to this aging Chennai squad.

Sam Curran (Source: Twitter)

The talented youngster could contribute with both ball and bat. He along with Dwayne Bravo and Ravindra Jadeja will improve the balance of the team and provide numerous options for MS Dhoni.

Piyush Chawla

One of the best bowlers in IPL history, Piyush Chawla was one of the vital players for Kolkata Knight Riders in recent years. However, his experience in IPL will be a massive bonus for CSK this season.

Piyush Chawal, MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina were part of CSK’s pre-IPL camp this year. (Twitter/CSK

Chawla could slot in as the lone full time spinner in this bowling attack. The 31-year old will hope to perform to his best levels to keep his place.

Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur is one of the best pace bowlers in Indian cricket. The youngster has the talent but lacks consistency in international cricket.

But under the able leadership of MS Dhoni, he will be one of the stars in this bowling line up. An in form Shardul is a menace for any opposition and CSK fans hope he can perform to his potential.

Deepak Chahar

Deepak Chahar is undoubtedly the best bowler for Chennai in IPL 2019. The talented swing bowler managed to provide breakthroughs with his skillful bowling inside the powerplay overs. He earned plaudits for fans and analysts alike during last season.

Initially a new ball bowler, Chahar has developed his death bowling skills as well. He will be the spearhead for Chennai Super Kings bowling in IPL 2020.

Josh Hazlewood

Hazlewood is one of the best pacers in the world in test cricket. However, he is yet to make his IPL debut. But this could be a season where he can showcase his skills.

After losing his T20 spot in Australian national team in 2016, Hazlewood is keen to make an impact. An outstanding IPL this year would help his chances to enter the squad for next year’s T20 world cup.

With title sponsors VIVO cutting ties with IPL this season, BCCI are currently looking for a lucrative sponsors. Despite interest from many big brands in India and across the world, till now no news have been confirmed.

The tournament is only five weeks away and the board are still looking with VIVO pulling out very late. Recent reports suggest Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali is mulling over entering the bidding process to become the new title sponsors. Patanjali’s spokesperson Tijarawala also confirmed this news to Economic times.

“We are considering the IPL title sponsorship for this year, since we want to give the Patanjali brand a global marketing platform,” Patanjali spokesperson SK Tijarawala told Economic Times.

“This is for Vocal For Local and making one Indian brand as global, this is the right platform. We are considering that perspective. We have to make a final decision, whether we would take it or not,” Tijarawala added.

BCCI have asked all the interest parties to submit their bids before August 14. A final decision is most likely to be arrived by this weekend. Currently, BCCI are earning Rs 440 crore per year from VIVO. The Chinese phone maker made a five year contract back in 2018 which was worth around Rs 2200 cr.

Big Brands Interested In Bidding

Although Patanjali is the latest name to enter the race, there are many big names who are mulling over getting the rights. The pandemic has changed the conditions a lot and BCCI are also ready to offer discounts.

The board is reportedly willing to give up to 50% discount on the current price for the sponsors. Big names like  Jio, Amazon, the TATA group, Adani group, Coca Cola, Dream 11, and Byju’s are all interested in winning the rights for this season.

With VIVO likely to take over title rights against next summer, this might only be a temporary contract for one season.

Indian Premier League season 13 will begin on September 19 in United Arab Emirates. The tournament was forced out of India at this moment, because of Corona Virus crisis. The finals are set to be played on November 10.

All the franchises have already begun preparations and will soon fly to UAE in the coming days. This will be the first time complete season will be played outside India since 2009.

England Cricketer Ben Stokes To Miss Reminder of Pakistan Test Series

England’s all rounder Ben Stokes will miss the remaining test matches in the ongoing series against Pakistan due to family reasons. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the news on Sunday.

England are the first country to host a test series during the Corona pandemic. The team has so far played four tests this summer. After losing the first test against West Indies, the hosts were able to overturn the deficit and win the series 2-1.

Ben Stokes is a very important player in this England’s side. The 29-year-old will fly to New Zealand later this week. Various reports suggest he is going to be with his ill father, Ged Stokes and his family.

A statement from the ECB said: “He will miss England’s two Test matches against Pakistan at the Ageas Bowl on Thursday 13 August and Friday 21 August.

“The England and Wales Cricket Board, along with the Stokes family, requests that all media respects the family’s privacy at this time.”

Ged Stokes is a former rugdby player for New Zealand. However, he was hospitalised days ahead of England’s Boxing Day Test against South Africa in December last year in Johannesburg.

After that, he was cleared to return to New Zealand and continued his recovery.

Ben Stokes- Match Winner for England

Ben Stokes is a very important player for England across all three formats. The southpaw managed to score a vital 75 during the chase against Pakistan.

This helped England clinch a thrilling first test against Pakistan at Manchester last week. However, his unavailability will be a huge blow for the home side. Pakistan looked like destined to win the first game but somehow they faltered.

The upcoming two test matches will be played in Southampton over the next two weeks.

The importance of Ben Stokes is very high in the team. He is arguably the best all rounder in the game at the moment. He has produced some scintillating innings with his bat across all formats.

Stokes is a cornerstone to the success of England in recent years. It will be very tough for any player to replace him in the team. Meanwhile, in the absence of Ben Stokes, Sussex bowler Ollie Robinson has linked up to join the team.

IPL 2020: Sanjay Manjrekar Predicts Super IPL Season For MS Dhoni

Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar believes that MS Dhoni will have a very good IPL season. The Chennai Super Kings skipper have not been in action since the world cup last year.

Despite this, there has been a huge anticipation over IPL 2020 just to see Dhoni back in action. Dhoni had officially retired from test cricket in 2014 but continued playing in shorter formats. But there is a huge uncertainty over his international cricket career since last summer.

A strong and proper IPL season could propel him back into the national team. According to recent reports, Dhoni has already started practicing hard for the upcoming tournament.

MS Dhoni (Credits: Twitter)

“I think he is going to be very good and one of the reasons that he is so successful and so consistent in the IPL as a batsman as opposed to international is that he knows that there are about four to five bowlers to handle,” said Sanjay Manjrekar on the Star Sports’ show Cricket Connected.

Manjrekar added: “And there are some good ones and there are some not so good ones in the IPL. In international, you have got five quality bowlers, so he’s so good at picking out those guys and going after them.”

No Doubts on Fitness Levels

If there is one thing that can be guaranteed, then that is MS Dhoni’s fitness. Despite his old age, Dhoni is one of the fittest cricketers in cricketing world. He is an elite athlete and Manjrekar feels Dhoni can find a way to keep himself fit for a long time.

“People like Tendulkar, Dhoni, these are champion cricketers,” said Manjrekar. “Once they are on the public stage… you will never see Dhoni ever on a public stage, like a cricket field, looking slightly unfit or unable to sprint or run.

“During Virat Kohli’s wedding, I had a little corner time with him and he said that as long as I am beating the fastest sprinter in the team, I am going to consider myself fit enough to be playing international cricket or playing high-level cricket.”

On the other hand, with a huge dip in quality in bowlers in IPL, Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Dhoni can efficiently pick the bowlers and target runs.

“So, as a batter, with MS Dhoni in the IPL, I don’t see much difference. In fact, the conditions that we have, I keep saying, is just perfect for Dhoni, where’s it’s going to be about the mind and not just power hitting,” said Manjrekar.

IPL 2020 will begin next month and Chennai Super Kings will once again be favorites to win the title. Under the leadership of Dhoni, Chennai managed to keep the core together and make some exciting additions.

CSK are planning to reach UAE at the earliest possible date and prepare for the mega event. On the other hand, Dhoni will feel IPL is the most important tournament for his international career.

Virender Sehwag Hilarous Reply to Yuzvendra Chahal’s Engagement Announcement

Former Indian Cricketer Virender Sehwag is well known for his epic humor on his social media. Ever since he retired, the explosive batsman had started hitting boundaries on his twitter account. The fans were also always happy to see his hilarious humor over the years.

Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has decided to get engaged during this pandemic. The talented leg spinner has announced his engagement with a picture on his twitter account. However, Virender Sehwag decided to troll the spinner with his witty words.

“Waah @yuzi_chahal ! Aapda ko avsar mein badal daala. Congratulations, (Wow Chahal, turned obstacles into an opportunity. Congratulations!)” tweeted Sehwag.

The 41-year old has took reference of Narendra Modi’s meme that was doing rounds in social media in recent weeks. In this adverse crisis, fans enjoyed the reply from Sehwag and the cricketer was once again at the centre of attention.

In case if you did not know, Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma completed their ‘Roka’ ceremony on Saturday. Both of them donned traditional attire and Chahal became the latest Indian cricketer who will be soon married.

Apart from Sehwag, other cricketers like Rohit Sharma also took a sly humor at Chahal as they could not let the moment pass away.

Chahal Gearing Up for IPL

Meanwhile, Yuzvendra Chahal will soon participate in the preparations with Royal Challengers Bangalore. The 30-year old has been a main stay at RCB for many years now and will once again play a crucial role for the team cometh next month.

IPL 2020 will be played in United Arab Emirates from mid September. Many franchises have already begun preparations for this mega event as tests and quarantine measures are in place. However, BCCI has already told the franchises that they can’t depart for UAE before August 20.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will look to win their maiden IPL trophy this season. However, it is going to be a tough fight for all teams as they will be playing outside India for the first time in 6 years.

IPL 2020: Teams Begin Quarantine Measures, Covid Testing Ahead of Mega Event

IPL 2020 is looming fast as the franchises have already started taking some measures. In these difficult times in Covid crisis, cricket fans are happy to see the biggest T20 league back in action.

However, all the franchises are cautious and have begun preparations for the new season. Although, the IPL Governing Council is yet to finalize the SOP, all the franchises are already preparing themselves for the mega event in UAE next month.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the reigning champions Mumbai Indians have asked all their Indian players to undergo strict quarantine in a hotel. All the players will also undergo COVID 19 tests in the upcoming days.

Meanwhile, inaugural IPL champions Rajasthan Royals have reportedly asked their players to undergo home quarantine. The team are already making arrangements to conduct covid tests in a couple of weeks time.

The resumption of football in Europe, looks to have a helped cricket franchises and other sports to undergo certain precautions before start of any tournament. Meanwhile, IPL governing council have provided an SOP to all the franchises.

But the teams are said to have asked governing council to make certain changes to the rules like reducing the number of mandatory quarantine days for players arriving in UAE.

“Outdoor training is out of question still, we’re being cautious and since everything is still very uncertain with regards to SOPs, we’re awaiting a final confirmation,” a franchise source told ESPNcricinfo.

Current SOP suggests that players arriving in UAE should undergo seven day quarantine and have to take four covid 19 tests. However, teams are asking to reduce this, because of overseas stars.

Some of the overseas players will join their respective IPL teams after fulfilling their CPL contracts and international games. So, if they undergo 7 day quarantine, they might miss out on IPL games at the start of the season.

The teams are hopeful that a final SOP will be given to them by this weekend. All the franchises are making sure that they are well prepared despite huge COVID crisis across the world.

On the other hand, teams like Chennai Super Kings had initially planned to depart for UAE in order to prepare better for the season. But their plans got delayed as IPL is yet to officially release the SOP.

Indian Premier League will begin on September 19 and the finals will be played on November 10. It will only be the second time that the tournament will be completely played outside India after 2009.

TV Umpire To Call Front Foot No Balls In England vs Pakistan Test Series

Technology in 21st century has helped cricket to get more advanced. Be it DRS, Hotspot technology or third umpire decisions, the game has moved to greater heights with technologies over the past couple of decades.

With the advent of technologies, the room for error of umpires has reduced to a greater extent. DRS has helped a lot for teams to challenge umpire decisions and it meant teams are getting fairer results. On the other hand, there is still some improvement needed with these technologies.

Last year, BCCI has tried using no ball technology in the series against West Indies on a trial basis. This has reduced a huge burden on on field umpires as they had one less thing to focus on. The third umpire monitored every ball in the series and it helped in a much fair competition.

The success of no ball technology in India meant, International Cricket Council (ICC) has used it during the T20 Women’s World Cup in Australia earlier this year.

Now, it is planning to use it in the ongoing England vs Pakistan series. The apex body has declared this decision earlier this week on twitter.

“Front foot no-ball technology to be used in ICC World Test Championship series featuring England and Pakistan, with the support of both teams,” the ICC tweeted.

“Performance of the technology in these Tests will be reviewed before any decisions taken on its future use in Test cricket,” it added.

They are planning to check this on a trial basis for this series. If no ball technology is successful in this series, then there is a good chance that it will be used in all the test series in the upcoming years.

Technology is here to stay in cricket and no-ball technology is definitely a huge step forward in cricket. But there are still few things that can be improved as part of no ball technology.

In case if you are are unaware of no ball technology, then it is where each delivery will be monitored by third umpire to check for no balls. If a noball occurs, the decision will be sent to onfield umpire.

Pakistan begin their tour with first Test against England on Wednesday in Manchester. The three match test series is part of coveted ICC Test championship. The the next two fixtures will be played on August 13 and August 21 respectively, at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

Rohit Sharma Hails MS Dhoni Saying No Body Can Be Like Him

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the greatest captains to ever play the game. He is also the most successful Indian skipper ever. Indian cricket has managed to achieve new heights under Captain cool.

However, Rohit Sharma is one of the most underrated captains in world cricket. The talented opener has taken over reigns at Mumbai Indians in 2013. During his 7 full seasons as captain for Mumbai Indians, Sharma has managed to win a record 4 IPL titles. This made him the most successful captain in IPL history.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma also captained India in both ODIs and T20Is in the absence of Virat Kohli. The current Indian skipper Virat Kohli was given rest at regular intervals to ensure his work load is managed across all the three captains.

In the chances he got to captain India, Rohit Sharma once again proved his mettle by helping the team clinch series after series. Such has been his captaincy which led to rumors that he could get chance to captain India full time in either ODIs or T20Is.

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has recently drawn comparisons between MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma during his podcast with South African cricketer JP Duminy. Suresh Raina said: “I would say that he (Rohit) is the next M.S. Dhoni for the Indian cricket team. I have seen him, he is calm, he likes to listen, he likes to give confidence to the players and on top of that, he likes to lead from the front. When the captain leads from the front and at the same time gives respect to the dressing room atmosphere, you know you have it all.”

During his recent interaction with fans on a twitter QA session, Rohit was asked about Rain’s comments. Rohit Sharma was quick to dismiss comparisons and praised his former captain MS Dhoni. The 31-year old said that there is no body like Dhoni.

“Yes, I heard about that comment from Suresh Raina. MS Dhoni is one of a kind and nobody can be like him and I believe comparisons should not be made like that, every individual is different and has his strengths and weaknesses.”

Here is the twitter video on Rohit’s answer

Both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are the most successful captains in the history of IPL. They will look to add another IPL title to their careers once the mega tournament begins in UAE next month.
