Prithvi Shaw was in the mood tonight. The right hander from Mumbai brutalized the toothless Kolkata Knight Riders bowling. He thumped his way to 41 ball 82, and single handedly clinched the match for Delhi Capitals as they, moved to second position in the points section.
Shaw started his innings with a bang, as he pulverized the first over of Shivam Mavi for 25 runs. It included 6 consecutive fours and set the tone for Delhi. Also, the first over was such brutal for Kolkata Knight Riders that, they could not recover from this onslaught till the end.
The first over went something like this.
A full delivery that started on leg stump and went, even further down leg for a wide, as Karthik had to dive, to get hold of the ball.
So, the first legal delivery of the over was a length ball. Shaw bashed it over the bowler’s head for a four. It was a sign of things to come.
The second delivery was a gentle one on the pads. The batsman flicked it through mid wicket for second successive boundary of the over.
Third ball of the over was another length delivery outside off. Shaw leant into a stunning cover drive that whizzed past covers for third consecutive four of the over.
6 fours in 1 over
Fourth ball of the over too brought no respite. It was another poor delivery as Mavi bowled a low full toss. Shaw was in no mood to miss tonight. He once again, slammed the ball through covers for the 4th boundary of the over.
By this time, the bowler had almost given up. He bowled a harmless short delivery outside off and once again, Shaw brought out a ferocious cut. Hence, the ball raced away towards point.
The last ball was just short of being a half volley. However, with the confidence of Shaw being sky high after hitting five consecutive fours, he went for the sixth one as well. Moreover, he succeeded in what he was trying to do. Shaw once again, drove the ball through covers and it went to the boundary, beating cover fielder.
