Ravichandran Ashwin has shown some serious form in County cricket. This is a great news for the Indian team ahead of the marquee 5 test series vs England. The senior most spinner took a career best figures of 6-27 in County cricket. Playing for Surrey against Somerset, Ashwin achieved this remarkable stats. Such deadly was the spell that the opposition team was bowled out for 69 runs.

In the first innings of the match Ashwin missed out on wickets but was economical. He returned with figures of 43-9-99-1. However the off spinner more than compensated it in the second innings as he ran through Somerset with stunning display of 15-4-27-6. This genius performance will also have alarm bells ringing in the English camp. Moreover it will provide boost to the Indian team who are looking to win a test series in England since 2007.

Taking the new ball in the second innings just like in the first to get match practice, Ashwin did not take long to strike. His first wicket was of Steve Davies who tried to drive the spinner. However the ball took his outside edge and settled into the hands of wicket keeper Jamie Smith.

Ashwin’s second wicket was Tom Lammonby. The left hander attempted to reverse sweep the tweaker but the ball bounced more than he expected and went to slips. Hence the fielder there took a simple catch diving forward.

Top class stuff by the veteran!

James Hildreth became Ashwin’s third wicket when he was found plumb infront of the wicket. George Barlett followed him to the pavilion as the right hander tried to leave alone a delivery outside off. To his horror he saw the ball turning viciously and shave his off stump.

Former Netherlands and South Africa player Roelf Van Der Merwe was Ashwin’s fifth wicket. Merwe could only inside edge a delivery to short leg off the bowler for a score of 7 runs. The 34 year old off spinner picked up his 6th wicket when he bowled Ben Green neck and crop through the gate.

This was Ashwin’s 7th five wicket haul in 10 matches of County Championships and first for Surrey.
