Shakib Al Hasan is easily the best cricketer Bangladesh has ever produced. The left handed all rounder is amongst the world’s finest cricketers and his presence in a team lifts their balance. Be it with the ball or with the bat, Shakib can turn the match on its head. No wonder, he is one of the most sought after cricketer in league cricket for his match winning ability.

However, this is not the only thing that is associated with Shakib Al Hasan. He has had a history of getting involved in controversies, both on and off the field. The all rounder was once caught making inappropriate gestures in front of a camera in a live match. Hence, he copped a three match suspension by Bangladesh Cricket Board. Moreover, in 2019, he was banned by ICC for failing to report the ICC anti corruption unit about bookies approach to him. The ban was of one year and Shakib missed out on an year of cricketing activities.

Even in 2015, Shakib clashed with umpire Tanvir Ahmed in Bangladesh Premier League. Captaining his side Rangpur Riders, he became furious at the umpire for not giving the opposition batsmen OUT on the appeal of his fielders. Hence, he had to undergo a one match suspension by BCB and was also charged a heft fine.

No lessons learnt!

Now, Shakib Al Hasan has been involved in yet another controversy. Just like in 2015, he got furious at the umpire for not giving the decision he wanted. It was a local match of the Dhaka League T20 tournament, played between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Abahani Limited. Representing Mohammedan Sporting Club, Shakib forgot his professionalism twice in two successive overs.

The first moment happened when Shakib was bowling and appealed for an LBW against the batsman. However, the umpire paid no heed and in retaliation, the bowler kicked the stumps down on non strikers end. If that was not enough, another incident involving him and umpire happened in the very next over.

Actually, 5.5 overs had been bowled in the second innings of the match as it started to rain. Hence, the umpire opted to call of the play as they deemed it necessary. This too infuriated Shakib and once again, he took the stumps and threw it violently on the ground. It was followed by aggressive chat with the umpire as the captain Shakib wanted umpires to call off the play only after 6 overs.

From a senior cricketer like Shakib, it was a terrible display of sportsmanship. After he was criticized by fans and players alike, Al Hasan apologized on his Facebook page. The post by him read as :

“I am extremely sorry for losing my temper and ruining the match for everyone and especially those who are watching from home. An experienced player like me should not have reacted that way but sometimes against all odds it happens, unfortunately.”
