Kuldeep Yadav was India’s best spinner in limited overs format during the period 2017-2019. Both he and Chahal were instrumental as a duo for the team, but he just about edged Chahal in match winning abilities. The reason being he is a Chinaman bowler who are a rare breed in international cricket. Due to this, the left arm leggie was a nightmare for the opposition batsmen.

However he totally lost his form in the World Cup 2019. Afterwards, Kuldeep looked like a pale shadow of himself. Hence he was dumped out of the team. In his last match in Indian colors, Kuldeep was whacked for a record 8 sixes by Englishman Ben Stokes who feasted on his friendly deliveries.

Now with the Indian team playing against a weak Sri Lankan side, Kuldeep has been preferred once again. In fact both he and Chahal are back in the action and bowling in tandem for the first time since 2019.

More importantly for Indian fans, the duo bowled nicely and showed a glimpse of their old form. While Chahal picked a wicket on his first ball, Kuldeep picked 2 wickets in a single over.

Two wickets for Kuldeep in 4 balls

In the 17th over of the innings, Kuldeep came to bowl. Bhanuka Rajapaksa was playing a lovely innings and was batting on 24 off 21 deliveries. On the first ball of the over, the chinaman bowled a loopy delivery which Rajapaksa wanted to smash over cow corner. However he was beaten by the dip and could top edge the shot.

The ball went up in the air towards mid on where Shikhar Dhawan ran back and took the catch while falling on the ground. It was a good effort by the Indian captain.

Kuldeep’s second wicket came just 3 balls later. The new batsman Minod Bhanuka was delivered a brilliant ball that turned a lot. Clearly the left handed Bhanuka wasn’t expecting it and in the process of playing an off drive, he edged it to slips. The fielder present there was Prithvi Shaw and he made no mistake in taking the ball.
