Kings XI Punjab all rounder Glenn Maxwell feels that the time has come for the team to win their maiden IPL trophy. Punjab are one of the only two original sides to not win the coveted trophy in the past 12 seasons.

After playing for different teams in the past couple of seasons, the talented Australian is back at Kings XI Punjab this year. He is in fact the second highest bid player in the auction after Pats Cummins.

“I certainly feel that the whole competition thinks that it is Kings XI Punjab’s time to win that IPL trophy,” the 31-year old said.

“It’s getting closer and closer for us, they have been working hard for the last six years, and I’m certainly hoping that my addition and a few other additions this year that we can go all the way this year,” added the Australian all-rounder.

Maxwell was also full of praise for captain KL Rahul ahead of the tournament. The Australian expressed his happiness to play alongside Rahul rather than against him.

In fact, KL Rahul is one of the best players in IPL and for India in the last two years. The elegant batter has the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history. He was also given the reigns after the team management decided to sack Ravi Ashwin last season.

“I think it’s good timing. Back in Kings XI colours, certainly looking forward to linking up with the guys in the UAE and hitting the ground running. I can’t wait to start playing with KL Rahul and play on his team rather than against him, I just think he’s an absolute class act,” Maxwell said

Maxwell Heroics Helped Punjab Reach Final in 2014

Glenn Maxwell was the biggest player for Punjab during IPL 2014. He single handedly lifted the team with his batting heroics. Then 25-year old propelled Punjab to their first ever IPL final with his bat.

However, Punjab had never managed to hit similar heights in the past six seasons. David Miller and Glenn Maxwell enjoyed a great stint in UAE and continued it to the home leg.

“Myself and David (Miller) had a great season in 2014, and the joy that it brought to the Kings XI Punjab fans is something that I’ll never forget,” concluded Maxwell.

Incidentally, the 2014 edition of IPL also began in IPL. So, if Maxwell hits his peak form, may be the cricketing gods will send them to final once again, you never know!
