Watch: three massive sixes by Dhoni in last over of the match

The IPL season 2021 ended, abruptly and prematurely. Only about half of the tournament was completed and another half, was still remaining. Then, COVID breached the bio bubble and the season, had to be called off. Also, there is no hope of the remaining of the tournament happening, in next few months to come. The reason being, no improvement in the situation of COVID.

Hence, now we would take a look at some of the best incidents and moments, happening in the IPL since its started.

 

Dhoni’s 3 sixes in an over

This match was played at, Sharjah Cricket Ground in the UAE. The two teams, were Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals hammered 217 runs for loss of 7 wickets. The opener, Steve Smith and the number 3 Sanju Samson, played a brilliant innings of 69 runs in 47 balls and 74 runs in 32 balls, respectively.

At the end , Jofra Archer played a sensational cameo of 27 runs in just 8 balls, that included 4 sixes. Consequently, Rajasthan Royals managed 217 runs for 7 in 20 overs.

For Chennai Super Kings, Sam curran picked up three wickets and give 33 runs in 4 overs. He was, the most successful bowler, for his team.

Chasing a target of 218 runs Chennai started nicely. There openers, Shane Watson and Murali Vijay added 56 runs in 6.4 overs. Then, the first wicket fell in the form of Murali Vijay. After that, the number 3 batsman, Faf Du Plessis, played a scintillating knock of 72 runs in 37 deliveries. He smacked 7 sixes. Watson too, supported him with 33 runs in 21 balls.

But then, both were dismissed. After that, Chennai kept losing wickets regularly. Soon, they were left, so far behind in the match, that victory was impossible for them.

At the start of final over,  Chennai required 38 runs and Dhoni – Jadeja were batting. Mathematically, the chances of Chennai were finished. This was displayed in the way they batted on the first two balls, when only single came on each.

Then, Dhoni decided to go berserk.

Three consecutive sixes by Dhoni

On the third ball of the over, Tom Curran bowled a full length delivery. Hence, Dhoni thumped the ball over deep midwicket for a massive six. It was too late according to the match, but it arrived nevertheless.

The fourth ball of the over was a slower one. MS Dhoni went down on one knee and walloped the ball again for a six, this time over long on.

Fifth ball of the over, was a short delivery by the bowler. Dhoni was more than ready for it. He quickly went on the backfoot and absolutely pumped the ball over square leg. It was a thunderous pull shot, that reminded of Dhoni at his prime.
